Since he was the youngest of the family and didn't yet master magic like the rest of his family, they decided to enslave him.
Years later, after Vincent had grown up, he and many others attempted to escape from slavery, but Vincent was overpowered and nearly killed. Only then did his potential reveal itself and his spark ignite, igniting his family's magic as well. It took only a moment for his tormentors to be destroyed by black magic or incinerated by red magic fueled by his rage. When he saw this sight before his eyes, he collapsed and was found on the world of Innistrad by the vampire Sorin Markov.
Sorin taught him how to harness his magic and showed him what he was truly capable of. Within a short time, he learned all the black, red, and green magic Innistrad had to offer and accompanied Sorin on his travels – always with one goal in mind: to become powerful enough to protect others from the same fate that had befallen him.
